A demanding rally for Østberg Print E-mail

M-Sport Stobart Ford team mates Mads Østberg and co-driver Jonas Andersson finished 12th in the seventh round of the World Rally Championship in Acropolis Rally of Greece. Mads Østberg set a high speed on the opening day of Acropolis Rally with a sixth place overall, before he lost his power steering in his Ford Fiesta RS WRC and went of the road.

Østberg and Andersson were forced to retire, and the hope to fight with the frontrunners moved away when they had to start day two under Superally regulations after their exit on Friday.

- There has been a challenge to find the right motivation after the exit on the first day. You have not the same killer instincts when you are driving under the Superally regulations. I think we've had some good stages with the pace we had hoped for, even though we had to retire on Friday, said Mads.

Co-driver Jonas Andersson's bag with the pace notes from 2008 and 2009 inside was stolen on their way to Greece, so they had to create new pace notes on the recce.

- It is important to get the small details in the notes, so you can get the right speed and to try to push hard on these rough, loose and rocky roads. We are used to make new pace notes - we did that in Mexico, Jordan and Argentina. But it is a benefit and you are more prepared if you can use your old notes and just make some changes, said Mads.

Mads was third quickest through on the opening stage of day two, and had some good stages with top five places. The last stage on Saturday was a night stage, where Mads struggled with the dust and the lights because he didn't had time to recheck them after he did some adjustments before the stage. They continued today where they left off yesterday, but already on the first stage this morning he got technical problems with the steering.

- Today was about getting through without any big problems, and we have managed to do that. We did not managed to repair the steering on the service, but in the end it have been an okay day for us. I´ve learned a lot this weekend, and sometimes it goes like this, said Mads Østberg.

Mads and Jonas started at 25th place on Saturday after their exit, and finished Acropolis Rally of Greece at 12th place overall.

Next event for the duo are Rally Estonia, and they will use the rally as a test before the WRC event in Rally Finland in the end of July.
